Naughty Games Can Get You Banned From Adsense

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

vanessa-sladdSo, couple days ago I recived an email from Adsense, telling me that some of my pages are violiting their terms. As an example they pointed me to the page where I had the game Vanessa Naughty Pics. This is one of many popular games, that most arcades, at least the ones trading traffic got on their site. The reason is simple, the thumbs get loads of clicks. All though it’s all cartoon, and there is no nudity (all girls got bikini) these games are violating adsense terms about pornography, adult, or mature content.

The warning I got was that I need to make changes on my site within 72 hours (aka remove the content, or remove adsense from the content page). My account would remain active if I didn’t remove the games or ads on the game page, but they would not serve ads. However they did also mention that they could deactivate my account if some of my sites violated the terms in the future.

So, I guess all of you that got such games on your site, and running Adsense should figure out a solution. One solution is to remove the games (I have done that) . If you really want these games on your sites, then it is possible to code something, that removes the adsense ads on such sites. I guess it could be done with an if statement. If game category = naughty show something else then adsense, else show adsense.

Here are the games that I have found, and deleted so far:

  • Vanessa Naughty Pics
  • Naughty Babysitter
  • Naughty Supermarket

Do you got these games on your site? Are you worried? What solution will you use?

Site is up. Server is up!

The server where HGG is located have almost constantly been down for the last 30 hours or so. I have been working on the issue most of that time, and I am glad that I finally got it fixed. I coulden’t do it without the exelent sypport from my hosting company though.

I’m still making changes to the site/layout, so please report back any bugs you might find. And please, share your thoughts!

The new layout is out

Holy Grail Games Will Not Be A Traffic Trading Site

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Alright guys, I’m sorry to say, but I have decided to make HGG a non trading site. I had big plans with the trading, and where going to set up an expensive trading mod, but when that went to h***, I really can’t afford to buy another mod. So, I have decided to make HGG a site where our users can play all the games on our site, and I’m going to develop the membership system a bit more, and make the site a bit more social.

That being said, I’m going to trade some traffic, but it’s not going to go via game plugs. I will most probaly set up a couple 100×100 or something like that, and send some traffic to around 5 good traders. (You know who you are!)

I will realese a slightly different theme today or tomorrow.

So, before we even could start, I am ending it. Good luck with your trading sites guys!

Some Information Regarding My Trading System

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

HGG does trade some traffic, and same of you that read my blog are most probably trading traffic with me aswell. Anyway, the last week or so I haven’t been trading traffic, and reason for that is that I’m in the process of installing a new trading script. Or, more correctly, someone is in the process of installing a new script for me. When this is done HGG be able to trade much more traffic, and hopefully we can grow our sites together.

This post is just to let you guys know that I’m still in the trading business, but I need to get this mod installed correctly before I can continue. I will write a post about it plus send out an email for those of you that are subscribed to the webmaster list when I’m ready.

Unstable server #2

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

So, i wrote yesterday that I might had a solution for the unstable server HGG is running on. It looks like my solutioon only was temperlary. Today the problem is back, and I’m thinking of switcing to a better server.

server-load

Today the site is hosted on a 1.7 cleron and 1gb ram. Not what we call a beast. :P But, I’m thinking to switch over to a box with Dual-Core 3040 Xeon, 4gb ram and double hard drives (one for backup). It’s almost $300 per month, and totally overkill at the moment, but I got a couple of sites that might outgrow the regular hosting they are one now, and can move them to the new dedicated box. I also are hoping that I can grow HGG to a decent level.

I’ll keep you updated.

Unstable server

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

The server that HGG is hosted on has been really unstable the last weeks. This is becuase the site is getting more traffic then the server can handle. It have been around 2 hours of downtime each day, but today it has been down for over 12 hours. I’m not an expert on servers, and I just thought I needed to upgrade the server.

That might not be the situation.

What I diden’t try was to do a re-boot, or restart of some services. Today I logged on WHM and checked out the server status. On that page there where 3 red blinking buttons. One for Server Load on for Memory Used and one for Swap Used. Red blinking buttons is not a good sign, and it was the where the problem was. So, I tried to restart apache, and the site went instantly up. Now all the buttons are green, and so far it looks like everything is good. I will monitor the stats as the hours goes and more traffic comes to the site again.

Traffic From China Is Killing My Server

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Yesterday I finally got the problems with the server sorted out, but it diden’t go long before I got a new problem on my hands. This time it’s China. Traffic from China. Lynx Bike 2 got featured on two of the biggest game sites in china (7k7k.com and game.com.cn) which resulted into a traffic swarm heading my way. Traffic I don’t really want. Why? because I don’t earn a dime on traffic from China.

Anyway, I do now know what limits my server got. 100 people online at the same time. Then the CPU are running for 100%. There have been 100 people online at the same time constant for the last 12 hours. This ain’t good for my server, and I’m thinking of redirecting the traffic to another site. (msn.com or something)

It’s night in China now, and the traffic is falling. Finally. If the traffic is as high tomorrow I will do the redirect, but for now I keep the traffic coming.

So, have you been bugged with China traffic latly?

I Think I Have Fixed The Server Issue

Friday, December 5th, 2008

Holy Grail Games might not need a bigger server after all. Not yet that is. Today I sent an new ticket to hostgator regarding the server issue, and this time a new guy responded. (last time the support said that I needed to upgrade the server)

This time the support really knew what he was talking about, and apparently when HGG was running on the old GS script it set alot of persistent connections in mysql. Some of the connections have been running for several millions of seconds. And when these stacked up it just got worse and worse. Anyway, the support deleted the bad stuff, and reset the database, and now everything looks fine. The site hasent been down for several hours, and it handles 40+ people online at the same time just fine. :) Before it meant trouble if 20+ people visited.

So, HGG will stay on this server for now, and we’ll see if I need a server upgrade with time. Now I need to get the new URLs indexed in google. Thats a pain.

Holy Grail Games finally below 100k in Alexa

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

So, just wanted to write a short post letting you know Holy Grail Games is now below the famouse 100k mark in Alexa. The ranking at the moment is 97.417.

The 1 week avreage is above 100k, but that is mainly becuase of the change of script. I almost lost 50% of all my traffic instantly over night when I made the switch (might write a own post about that). But in the last days the traffic has been picking up.

Now I need to get the server issue fixed.
